9CR Practical Demonstration Requirements for

 Operational Specialty Courses

 

Seamanship

 Demonstrate how to tie the following knots: 

Clove Hitch

Bowline

Timber Hitch

Round Turn & 2 Half hitches

Double Becket(Sheet) Bend

Stopper Knot

Square Knot

 

 Make an Eye Splice in a three strand line.

Navigation

Explain the following:

1.                    How can you determine deviation on a given heading?
2.                    How do you determine speed over ground?
3.                    How do you determine current velocity by using a RPM table?
4.                    How do you use a lead line when underway?

  

Patrols 

1. Explain the positioning of screen and marker vessels during the following marine events: 

Sailing Regatta

Rowing Regatta

Power Boat Regatta

Marine Parade

2. Explain the major concerns of the Patrol Commander during the above events:

  

Search and Rescue

 The student may use the Practical demonstration from the student textbook.

  

Weather

Classroom preparation for the last five questions on the Weather Specialty Course examination shall be considered the practical demonstration for the course.

 

Communications


1.     Correctly pronounce the phonetic alphabet.
2.     Correctly pronounce the numerals from 0 to 9.
3.     Explain the meaning of the following ‘Pro’ words:  

Roger

Wilco

Over

Out

Message Follows

Words Twice


4.     Give the key items to be broadcast in a distress message.
5.     Explain the situations when the following types of broadcasts would be used:

Distress

Urgency

Safety


6.     Demonstrate the call used for each of the above broadcasts.
